What is a high-memory VPS used for?
The more a program keeps data in RAM while it works, the more memory size becomes speed. Here are four uses where a memory-optimized VPS fits best.
Database servers
PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB answer faster and read the disk less the more frequently read tables and indexes they keep in memory buffers. A high-memory VPS has plenty of RAM, from 16GB to 256GB, so all or most of your database can sit in memory.
Caches and key-value stores
For stores that keep data only in memory, such as Redis, Valkey and Memcached, RAM size is storage capacity. Keep sessions, carts, leaderboards and queues large on one server shared by several web servers, and responses are evenly fast.
Analytics and search engines
Search and analytics engines such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch and ClickHouse, and work on large tables with pandas, slow down or stop when memory runs short. Choose 8 vCPU 64GB or 16 vCPU 128GB to process even large data in memory in one go.
Java apps and many containers
When you gather Java-based services, large game servers or many Docker containers on one server, memory runs out before CPU does. With 8GB of RAM per vCPU, you run more containers stably without swap.
How do high-memory VPS, regular VPS and dedicated CPU VPS differ?
All three come with root access and the same regions and billing; the difference is how much memory comes with each vCPU and how the CPU is used. For work that loads lots of data into RAM, high memory fits; for compute-heavy work, dedicated CPU fits.
Cloud VPS
1 to 4GB RAM per vCPU, the lowest starting price
Best for
- Small websites and blogs
- Telegram bots and personal VPNs
- Services starting on a small budget
- Light apps that use little memory
High-memory VPS
8GB RAM per vCPU, a memory-optimized VPS
Best for
- Servers that load an entire database into RAM
- Large caches such as Redis and Valkey
- Search engines and analytics
- Servers running many containers
Dedicated CPU VPS
A CPU-optimized VPS with vCPUs just for you
Best for
- Builds and conversions that run the CPU high for a long time
- Game servers sensitive to lag
- Backends with requests coming in nonstop
- Batch processing that needs the same performance every time
What is a high-memory VPS, and why does memory matter?
A high-memory VPS is a server with large memory relative to its vCPU count. HELPER VPS high-memory plans give 8GB of RAM per vCPU, so even with the same 2 vCPU you get 16GB of memory instead of the standard 12GB. For services that must hold lots of data at once more than they compute, this difference greatly changes speed and stability.
Memory is far faster storage than disk. Databases keep frequently used data in RAM, and cache servers keep data in RAM only. When memory runs short, the operating system starts using swap, treating disk like RAM, and response times suddenly grow. Generous RAM prevents those moments.
It is a virtual server like the other plans, so it is created in minutes, and you start, stop, reboot and reinstall the operating system from the control panel as usual. With the same account, put web servers on standard and databases on high memory, and you spend only on the resources each service really needs.
How much RAM should I choose for a high-memory VPS?
A server with 2 vCPU and 16GB memory is the starting point for a separate database for a small service or a Redis cache server. If your database is around 10GB, most of it fits in memory. For larger data, or to keep a cache and database together on one server, 4 vCPU and 32GB fits.
For search engines, analytics, or bringing several services' databases together in one place, choose the server with 8 vCPU, 64GB memory and 200GB NVMe. The largest, with 16 vCPU and 128GB memory, comes with 400GB NVMe and 7TB transfer per month, suiting teams that work with large data directly in memory.
If you already have a server, first check your usual memory use with the free command or a monitoring tool. Choose a size that adds about 30% headroom to your busiest usage and you can run stably without swap, and the spare RAM is used by the operating system as disk cache to speed up reads even more.

High-memory VPS FAQ
Answers on high-memory VPS pricing, memory size, payment and uses
How much does a high-memory VPS cost per month?
A server with 2 vCPU, 16GB memory, 100GB NVMe and 4TB transfer per month is $32.00 per month. 4 vCPU 32GB is $64.00, 8 vCPU 64GB is $128.00, and the largest, with 16 vCPU, 128GB memory, 400GB NVMe and 7TB transfer per month, is $256.00 per month. Automatic backups, extra disks and DDoS protection are added only if you choose them.
When should I choose a memory-optimized VPS?
Choose it when your server's memory usage always climbs before its CPU usage. Typical examples are databases, caches such as Redis and Valkey, search engines, Java-based services and servers running many containers. When memory runs short and swap kicks in, responses slow down, so it is best to add RAM before that happens.
How is a high-memory VPS different from a regular cloud VPS?
The difference is the amount of memory per vCPU. A regular cloud VPS gives 2 to 4GB per vCPU, and a high-memory VPS gives 8GB of RAM per vCPU. So even with the same 2 vCPU, the high-memory server has 16GB of memory and answers much faster for work that loads lots of data into RAM. For light websites, standard is more economical.
How much RAM does a database need?
Ideally, enough for all frequently read data and indexes to fit in memory. For database files around 10GB, a 16GB server is the starting point; for 20 to 25GB, a 32GB server. Set shared_buffers for PostgreSQL or innodb_buffer_pool_size for MySQL to around half of total RAM, and the operating system uses the remaining memory as disk cache.
How do I pay for a high-memory VPS?
Pay the full amount for your chosen billing period (1, 3, 6 or 12 months) when you create the server. Save 10% for 3 months, 15% for 6 months or 25% for 12 months. The server is created once your payment is confirmed. Refunds go to your account credit and are applied automatically to your next invoice.
What happens to my server when the billing period ends?
When the billing period ends, the server is suspended, and you can start it again by paying the renewal invoice within 3 days. If there is still no payment after 3 days, the server and its data are deleted. A stopped database server has a big impact, so renew before the period ends and turn on automatic backups too.
How long does it take to create a high-memory VPS?
Creation starts as soon as you click Create, and the server is usually running within a few minutes. When it is ready, the control panel shows the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and the root password; for security the password can be viewed again for only 7 days, so change it on first login or log in with an SSH key. Add your public key once and it goes on every new server automatically.
Can I use it as a Redis or Valkey cache server?
Yes, cache servers are one of the best uses for a high-memory VPS. Redis and Valkey keep all data in memory, so RAM size is storage capacity, and 8GB of RAM per vCPU lets you run a bigger cache for the same price. Connect it to your web servers over a private network and block outside access with the firewall.
Which operating systems can I install?
Choose from Ubuntu 26.04, 24.04 and 22.04 LTS, Debian 13 and 12, AlmaLinux 10 and 9, Rocky Linux 10 and 9, CentOS Stream 10 and 9, and FreeBSD 14. The Docker, WordPress, LEMP and Node.js one-click apps come installed on Ubuntu 24.04, and you can reinstall the operating system anytime from the control panel.
How many servers can I create in one account?
You can create up to {max-servers} servers per account. You can mix high memory, dedicated CPU, high-performance NVMe and standard SSD, so a setup with databases on high memory and web servers on standard is managed from a single account. After your first payment, you can also create and delete servers automatically with the API.
