How to choose a VPS: cloud VPS comparison criteria and recommendations

Choosing a VPS means comparing seven criteria in turn: CPU type, disk type, pricing model, region, payment, support and backups. This page explains what each criterion means, which VPS suits which job, and how to choose at HELPER VPS, all in one place.

Cloud VPS types compared

The four HELPER VPS types side by side on the same items. Starting prices are for the smallest plan on sale now, the same in every region.

All plans are prepaid for your chosen period of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and root access are all included.

In what order should I choose a VPS?

The fastest way to compare VPS is to start from the work you will run, not the price list.

First, write down what you will run on the server. Once the job is clear, such as a website, a Telegram bot, an online store, a database or a game server, the CPU, memory and disk you need follow naturally. Then choose a region based on where most of your users are, and finally check the operating conditions: pricing model, payment method, backups and support.

Starting with a small plan that is slightly larger than you need is the most economical. Watch usage for a few days and it becomes clear whether the CPU is busy, memory is short or disk is running low; then create a new server of the right type and size and move over.

What is the difference between shared vCPU and dedicated vCPU?

CPU type is the biggest factor, setting both price and how steady performance is.

With shared vCPU, several virtual servers share the CPU cores of a physical server. Most websites and bots use the CPU in short bursts with long idle periods, so shared vCPU is fast enough and the price is the lowest. HELPER VPS standard SSD and high-performance NVMe use this model.

With dedicated vCPU, set cores are used by your server alone. It suits work that needs constant performance, such as build servers that run the CPU hard all day, video encoding, game servers and compute jobs. HELPER VPS dedicated CPU plans start at $25.00 per month.

What is the difference between an SSD VPS and an NVMe VPS?

SSD and NVMe are both fast flash storage, but NVMe connects through a path closer to the CPU, so reads and writes are much faster and it handles many requests at once. Services that often read and write small files, such as databases, search and online stores, respond noticeably faster on NVMe.

Work that does not use the disk much, such as static websites, bots and development servers, is fine on SSD. At HELPER VPS, standard uses SSD, while high performance, dedicated CPU and memory optimized use NVMe. If you need more space, add an NVMe block disk from 50 GB to 1,000 GB at $0.028 per GB when you create a server.

How do monthly and hourly pricing differ?

Hourly pricing charges for the hours you use, which is handy for tests that run only a few hours. Monthly pricing sets the month's amount in advance, so budgeting for always-on services is easy and the bill is always the same.

HELPER VPS is prepaid for your chosen period of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. 3 months save 10%, 6 months save 15%, 12 months save 25%. There is no contract, so delete it anytime you no longer need it, and there are no charges from the next payment. If not renewed when the period ends, the server pauses and is kept for 3 days; renew within that time to carry on.

How do I choose a VPS region?

The closer the server is to your customers or users, the faster it is. Place it near where your users are: Seoul for Korean users, Tokyo and Osaka for Japan, Singapore for Southeast Asia, East and West Coast cities for the US, and Frankfurt and Amsterdam for Europe. Pages open faster and connections are more stable.

HELPER VPS creates servers in 40 cities across 31 countries, and the same plan has the same price in every region. No need to switch regions to compare prices: just choose the one closest to your users. If you have users in several countries, placing a small server in each region works well too.

What should I look for in VPS payment methods?

The best payment method is one that is convenient for you and makes the monthly amount easy to manage. For services abroad, factoring in currency exchange and fees shows the real cost.

HELPER VPS accepts 12 cryptocurrencies including USDT, USDC, BTC and ETH. Pay $25 minimum at a time: press Pay, choose the amount and coin in the secure PayGate checkout window, and send.

How do I check support and backups?

To run a server for the long term, you need somewhere to ask when something goes wrong and a way to restore your data. Check in advance where and how to contact support, whether backups are automatic and how restores work.

At HELPER VPS you ask questions and get replies on the support page after your first payment. For backups, choosing automatic backups when you create a server adds 5.6% of the plan fee to the monthly fee, and restores are also requested on the support page. For services that may face attacks, you can add DDoS protection for $1.68 a month.

Which VPS fits which use?

For common uses, here are good VPS types to start with.

Personal blogs, company websites, Telegram or Discord bots, VPNs, and development and test servers are fine on standard SSD. Standard starts at $25.00 per month.

Work where response speed matters, such as WordPress stores, busy web services and API servers, suits high-performance NVMe. Steady CPU work such as game servers like Minecraft, build servers and video encoding is best on dedicated CPU.

Databases and caches such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis, and analytics that load large data into memory, are most efficient on memory optimized. Memory optimized starts at $32.00 per month, with generous memory for the number of vCPUs.

How do I choose at HELPER VPS?

Check types and sizes on the pricing page, then on the create server page choose a region, size and operating system in turn, and the monthly price appears right alongside. You can choose from 12 operating system images among Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream and FreeBSD, and the Docker, WordPress, LEMP and Node.js one-click apps.

When the server is ready, connect over SSH with root access, or log in without a password using an SSH key you added earlier. You can have up to 10 servers per account, and after your first payment you can create and manage servers from your own programs with the developer API.

How to choose a VPS: FAQ

What specs are good for a first VPS?

For a single website or bot, the smallest 12 GB general plan is plenty to start. Watch CPU and memory usage for a few days, and if it falls short, create a new server on a bigger plan and move over. The smallest HELPER VPS plan starts at $25.00 per month.

What else should I check when choosing a cheap VPS?

Look at the vCPU type, memory, disk type, included traffic, region and payment method along with the monthly price. Specs and terms differ even at the same price, so deciding first what your service really needs makes the comparison accurate.

Is shared vCPU enough?

Most websites, bots and small API servers are fast enough on shared vCPU. For builds, encoding and game servers that use a lot of CPU all day, choose dedicated CPU for constant performance.

Do I really need an NVMe VPS?

For services that read and write the disk often, such as databases, online stores and search, NVMe is clearly faster. Static sites and bots are fine on SSD, so starting with standard is a good choice too.

Can I cancel a monthly VPS partway through?

Yes. There is no contract, so you can delete a server anytime. After deletion there are no charges from the next payment, and the time already paid covers that period's use.

Do VPS prices differ by region?

At HELPER VPS, the same plan has the same price in every region. Choose the location closest to your users among 40 cities in 31 countries without worrying about cost.

How do VPS backups work?

Choosing automatic backups when you create a server adds 5.6% of the plan fee to the monthly fee. If you need a restore, request it on the support page after your first payment, and keeping one more copy of important files elsewhere gives extra peace of mind.

Can I buy a VPS without a card?

At HELPER VPS, you buy a VPS with 12 cryptocurrencies including USDT, USDC, BTC and ETH. Pay $25 minimum at a time, and server fees are prepaid for your chosen period of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
