Nextcloud VPS hosting: your files on your own server
- Official All-in-One installed on the Docker app image
- Root access and public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
- Same plan, same price in 40 cities
The HELPER VPS Nextcloud VPS is a Linux cloud server where you run the open source cloud storage Nextcloud yourself, billed by invoice from $25.00 per month. Choose the Docker app image when you create the server, connect over SSH and run the official All-in-One command, and you can run file sync and sharing, calendars and contacts on a single server of your own.
What is Nextcloud?
Nextcloud is an open source collaboration platform for running file storage, sync and sharing on your own server. Desktop and mobile apps keep folders in sync automatically, and in the web interface you can share files by link, with an optional password and expiry date. Add features such as calendars, contacts, notes and task management from the app store for a wide range of uses.
Nextcloud All-in-One (AIO) is the official installation method made by the Nextcloud team. Run a single master container and a web admin interface opens, from which Nextcloud itself, a PostgreSQL database, Redis cache, document editing, Talk video calls and backup tools are installed one after another as containers. Updates are done with a button in the same admin interface, so even first-time self-hosters can start with ease.
What can I do with a Nextcloud VPS?
With one self-hosted Nextcloud server, you can set up anything from personal storage to a team collaboration space.
Automatic photo and file backup
Turn on auto upload in the mobile app and the photos and videos you take go straight to your Nextcloud VPS; computer folders stay in sync the same way.
Team document sharing and co-editing
Turn on document editing in AIO and several people can edit the same documents and spreadsheets together in the browser, with separate permissions for each folder.
Calendar and contact sync
With CalDAV and CardDAV support, bring the calendars and contacts from your phone and mail apps together on one server of your own.
Video calls and chat
Open team chat rooms and video calls with Nextcloud Talk, and view files from the server together during the meeting.
How do I buy a Nextcloud server?
From payment to your first login takes just three steps.
Step 1. Choose a plan and region
Pay with USDT, choose the city closest to your users, and select one of the recommended plans above.
Step 2. Create with the Docker app image
Choose Docker from the image list and a server is created with Docker Engine and Docker Compose installed on Ubuntu 24.04.
Step 3. Connect over SSH and run the command
Connect over SSH as root, paste the All-in-One command below, and enter your domain in the admin interface on port 8080 to continue the installation.
How do I install Nextcloud All-in-One?
Connect over SSH to a server created with the Docker app image and run the official command. If you point your domain's A record to the server IP before installing, an HTTPS certificate is issued automatically when you enter the domain in the admin interface. After running the command, open https://SERVER_IP:8080 in your browser and log in with the password shown on screen.
sudo docker run \
--init \
--sig-proxy=false \
--name nextcloud-aio-mastercontainer \
--restart always \
--publish 80:80 \
--publish 8080:8080 \
--publish 8443:8443 \
--volume nextcloud_aio_mastercontainer:/mnt/docker-aio-config \
--volume /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock:ro \
nextcloud/all-in-one:latestWhy install Nextcloud on your own VPS?
Use a Nextcloud VPS instead of public cloud storage and you decide everything about your data and settings.
Your data is on your server. Files, calendars and contacts are stored on your own server's disk in the city you choose, and you decide who can see them.
Expand storage as much as you like. Add an extra disk of 50 to 1000 GB when you create the server, with plenty of room as your photos and videos grow.
No per-user pricing. Create as many accounts as you like for family, friends and teammates, all for one server price.
Configure freely with root access. Change PHP memory, upload size and even the backup location yourself over SSH, and turn on any apps you need.
Extra protection with automatic backups. Choose automatic backups at creation and the whole server is saved on a regular schedule; when you need a restore, request it on the support page once your first payment is confirmed.
Simple payment with USDT. Sign up with a single account token and pay by invoice each month, so there is little to manage.
Technology used with Nextcloud
All-in-One bundles the technologies below as containers and runs them together on your Nextcloud VPS.
- Docker
- PostgreSQL
- Redis
- PHP
- Ubuntu
Place your server close to your users
Create Nextcloud servers at the same price anywhere in 40 cities across 31 countries.
How much memory does a Nextcloud VPS need?
If you, or a few family members, only use file sync and photo backup, you can start comfortably on a plan with 2 vCPU and 4 GB memory. All-in-One also runs a database and cache, so the more spare memory you have, the faster the web interface opens and the more stable it stays when syncs pile up.
If you turn on heavier features such as document co-editing, Talk video calls and full-text search, or have more than ten users, a 4 vCPU, 8 GB plan is the right fit. If you often sync folders with tens of thousands of small files, a high-performance plan with an NVMe disk feels noticeably faster. If you need more later, create a new server on a bigger plan and move over with the AIO backup feature.
What should I prepare before self-hosting Nextcloud?
First, get a domain and point it to the server IP. All-in-One checks the domain in the admin interface and then fetches an HTTPS certificate automatically, so you can connect the mobile and desktop apps securely. If you use a firewall, open ports 80, 443 and 8080 and port 3478 (TCP and UDP) for Talk so installation and meetings run smoothly.
Send notification and password reset emails by connecting a mail sending service that uses port 587 in the Nextcloud admin settings. Once data starts building up, turn on the BorgBackup backups included in AIO and use the server's automatic backups option too, for two layers of protection. With this in place, you can run your Nextcloud hosting comfortably for the long term.
Nextcloud hosting FAQ
Common questions when choosing and installing a Nextcloud VPS.
Is Nextcloud installed with one click on a Nextcloud VPS?
Create a server with the Docker app image, then install with a single official All-in-One command. Running the command opens an admin interface on port 8080, and when you enter your domain there, the remaining components are installed automatically.
Can I install it on a server created with the Ubuntu image?
Yes. If you created it with Ubuntu, install Docker first using Docker's official installation method, then run the same All-in-One command. Choosing the Docker app image from the start skips this step, so it is faster.
Do I need a domain?
All-in-One gets the HTTPS certificate based on your domain, so we recommend having one ready. Point the domain's A or AAAA record to the server's public IP and it is verified right away in the admin interface.
What if I run out of storage?
You can add an extra disk of 50 to 1000 GB when you create the server. The extra disk is included in the monthly price and renews with the server; just put the Nextcloud data folder on that disk.
How do I connect from my phone and computer?
Install the official Nextcloud desktop and mobile apps and enter your domain address and account. Once connected, the folders you choose sync automatically, and you can turn on automatic photo upload on your phone.
How do I update Nextcloud?
In the All-in-One admin interface, stop the containers and click the update button to switch to the new version. Running an AIO backup once before updating lets you proceed with extra peace of mind.
How many people can use it together?
The number of users depends on server performance and storage. For a family or a few people, we recommend starting with a 4 GB plan; for teams of more than ten or frequent video calls, start from an 8 GB plan.
Can Nextcloud send email?
Yes. Enter a mail sending service that uses port 587 under the mail server section of the admin settings, and share notifications and password reset emails go out. Outgoing port 25 is closed on HELPER VPS servers, so email is sent this way.
How do I back up data?
Back up Nextcloud data regularly with the BorgBackup included in All-in-One, and choose the automatic backup option (5.6% of the plan price) when you create the server to save the whole server too. Server backup restores are requested on the support page once your first payment is confirmed.
Which region should I choose?
Choose the city closest to the people who upload and download files the most. All 40 cities across 31 countries have the same plans and prices, so you can choose by location alone.
How do I pay for a Nextcloud server?
Pay with USDT, and the first month is billed when you create the server. After that you pay by invoice each month for convenience.
Nextcloud is an open source project made by Nextcloud GmbH and its community, and the rights to the trademarks and project belong to their respective owners. Installing, updating and configuring Nextcloud and support for using its apps are your responsibility. Nextcloud has no extra cost, and the server price is exactly the price of the plan you choose.
