What is a CDN used for?

For services where users in many countries frequently fetch the same files, a CDN improves response times and lightens the load on your server. Here are four common uses.

How is a CDN different from serving directly from your server?

A single server is enough for small sites, but if your users are in many countries or you have many large files, a CDN greatly improves perceived speed. Here is a comparison of setups for different situations.

CDN

Edge servers deliver from close by

Best for

  • Websites with users in many countries
  • Services with lots of images and videos
  • Distributing installers and patches
  • When you want to save your origin server's transfer

Serving directly from a cloud VPS

One server handles every request

Best for

  • Sites whose users are in one country
  • Services with mostly dynamic pages
  • When the server's included transfer is enough
  • When you want the simplest possible setup

Load balancer + several servers

Several servers in the same region share the load

Best for

  • Services with a very large number of dynamic requests
  • When the service must stay up even if one server stops
  • When increasing API and login throughput
  • When strengthening the origin alongside a CDN

How do I choose a CDN transfer bundle?

First, check how much you currently send to users each month. Outgoing traffic in your server control panel or web server logs gives a rough figure. Image-based blogs and company websites have plenty with the 1TB bundle, and photo-heavy sites such as online stores fit the 5TB bundle. For video courses or download services, choosing 10TB or more from the start gives you peace of mind.

Next, separate files to cache from files not to cache. Images, scripts, stylesheets and video segments can be cached for a long time, while pages that differ per person, such as carts and member pages, should come straight from the origin. Set cache times in your origin server's response headers and the edge keeps files according to those values.

Finally, set your domain. After ordering, tell us your origin address and the subdomain to use on the support page, and our team sets up the CDN and sends you the CNAME value to connect. Add that value to a subdomain such as cdn.yourdomain and a free TLS certificate is attached automatically, while visitors' browsers keep showing your own domain. The origin can be a cloud VPS, object storage or any other web server, so you simply place the CDN in front without changing your current setup.

How much does a CDN cost per month?

The smallest CDN bundle, 5TB, is $25.00 per month. 10TB is $45.00 and 50TB $199.00, and TLS certificates, cache purges and custom domains are all included in the prices in the table. There are no extra fees based on the number of requests or connected domains, so it is easy to plan with the same amount every month.

Transfer is counted by the amount the edge sends to users during the month. If you expect a big jump in users this month, choose one bundle larger, and once your site settles, match the right size to actual usage. Your origin server's transfer drops too, which often saves on server costs as well.

Payment is made by invoice at order time. Pay the first month when you order, and renew each month by paying the next invoice from the console. Pay with 12 crypto options including USDT, USDC, BTC and ETH.

How much faster does a CDN make my website?

The farther apart users and servers are, the longer each file takes to travel back and forth. A user in Seoul fetching images from a European server sends requests across the ocean and back, but with a CDN they get the same images from a nearby Asian edge. The more images and scripts a page has, the more this difference adds up, and the first screen renders noticeably faster.

The origin server side changes a lot too. The edge delivers most files users fetch, so the origin only needs to hand over a file once. Even during sudden rushes from events or ad campaigns, your origin server's CPU and bandwidth keep headroom, so important requests such as orders and payments go through smoothly.

Search engines like fast pages too. When pages open quickly, fewer visitors leave early, and screens appear quickly on phones so people stay longer. With basic settings alone, caching images at the edge for a long time and shrinking text files with automatic compression, you can take your whole site's speed up a level.

CDN FAQ

Answers on CDN pricing, transfer and how to connect

How much does a CDN cost per month?

The 5TB per month bundle is $25.00. 10TB is $45.00 and 50TB $199.00, and free TLS certificates, cache purges and custom domains are included in every bundle. The amount in the table is the full monthly price.

What is a CDN?

A CDN is a network that copies files from your origin server to edge servers in cities around the world and delivers them from close to your users. Users get files from a nearby edge instead of going all the way to a distant origin, so pages open fast, and your origin server receives fewer requests and gains headroom.

Where should the origin server be?

Any place that serves files over HTTP or HTTPS can be the origin. Besides HELPER VPS cloud VPS and object storage, web servers run elsewhere can be connected too, as long as we know the address. Place the origin close to the region with the most users, and the cache refills quickly even when empty.

Can I use the CDN with my own domain?

Yes, just connect a subdomain such as cdn.yourdomain as the CDN address. Tell us the domain you will use and our team gives you the CNAME value; add that one record in your domain's DNS settings to connect it, and the TLS certificate is issued and renewed automatically.

When do users see files I change?

The edge keeps files for the set cache time. To show changed files right away, request a purge of that path or the whole cache on the support page after your first payment, and our team handles it. Adding a version to file names on every deploy sends new files out right away without clearing the cache.

What happens if I use up my transfer?

When this month's usage gets close to your bundle, switch to a larger bundle and keep going. If your visitors are growing steadily, choosing one bundle larger from the start gives you room to spare. For a bundle change, request it on the support page after your first payment and we will guide you.

Can I use it for video streaming?

Video split into set files, such as HLS segments and MP4 files, is delivered very well through a CDN. When many people watch the same files, such as course videos or promotional videos, the 10TB or 50TB bundle is the right fit.

How do I pay for the CDN?

Pay with 12 crypto options including USDT, USDC, BTC and ETH. Pay the first month when you order, and renew each month by paying the next invoice from the console. Refunds are made to your account credit.

What happens to the CDN if I don't pay the invoice?

If you don't pay the invoice, the CDN pauses for a while, and once you pay it renews automatically again. In the meantime, switch users to the origin address and they can keep connecting. Pay invoices in advance and there is nothing to keep track of each month.

Can I connect an origin that is not HTTPS?

Yes, even if the origin supports only HTTP. Traffic between users and the edge is always encrypted with TLS, and traffic between the edge and the origin follows what the origin supports. Add a certificate to your origin too and files travel encrypted from end to end.
