App Platform: deploy web apps from Git and Docker images

Managed app hosting that handles everything from build to HTTPS address once you push your code

  • Deploy from Git and Docker images

App Platform is managed app hosting (PaaS) that takes your code or container image and handles building, running and HTTPS for you, without installing or managing servers yourself. On HELPER VPS App Platform, the smallest size, App L, is $25.00, and free certificates and custom domains are included in every size.

What is App Platform used for?

App Platform is a great fit for developers and small teams who would rather spend time on code than server setup. Here are four common uses.

How do App Platform, VPS and Kubernetes differ?

All three run apps, but what you manage yourself differs. To focus only on code, App Platform fits; to handle the whole server, a VPS; and for large container services, Kubernetes.

App Platform

Push code and leave running it to us

Best for

  • When you want to deploy apps without managing servers
  • When you want automatic deploys on Git push
  • Small web apps, APIs and bots
  • When you would rather not deal with certificates and logs

Cloud VPS

Manage the whole server with root access

Best for

  • When you want to install programs yourself
  • Several apps and databases on one server
  • When you need to handle operating system settings too
  • When you need bigger specs for the same money

Managed Kubernetes

Spread containers across several nodes

Best for

  • Architectures split into several services
  • When scaling throughput across several nodes
  • When operating with Helm charts and manifests
  • When your team knows Kubernetes well

Steps to deploy an app on App Platform

First, set the source of your app. After ordering, tell us your GitHub or GitLab repository or container image address on the support page, and our team connects it for you. For repositories, the build method is detected automatically from the language; if there is a Dockerfile, the build follows it, and an image you already built runs straight from its address.

Next, tell us your run settings. Send the port your app listens on, environment variables such as the database connection address, and the start command, and our team adds them. Passwords and API keys go in as encrypted environment variables so they never stay in your code repository. Once set up, the build starts, and when the app is up we send you its default address.

Finally, connect your own domain. Tell us the domain you will use and we give you the record value to add; add that one record in your domain's DNS settings and an HTTPS certificate is issued and renewed automatically. From then on, every push to your repository's default branch builds a new version, and traffic switches over only once it is ready, so customers use the service without interruption even during deploys.

How much does App Platform cost per month?

The smallest size, App L, is $25.00 per month with 2 vCPU and 4GB memory. App XL with 4 vCPU and 8GB memory is $45.00, and App 2XL with 8 vCPU and 16GB memory is $85.00. Builds, HTTPS certificates, custom domains and log access are all included in the prices in the table.

Choose the size based on the memory your app uses. App L is enough for Telegram bots and small APIs, and web apps using a framework fit App XL or App 2XL with 4GB. For services with many users or memory-heavy apps like image processing, choose App 3XL. You can change the size later based on usage by requesting it on the support page once your first payment is confirmed.

Payment happens on each billing date. The first month is charged when you order, and the same amount is taken automatically on each billing date to renew. If you run several apps, each has its own billing date, so cancelling only an unused app on the support page stops just that app's fee.

How to run apps reliably on App Platform

On App Platform, the disk is prepared fresh every time you deploy a new version. So data that must last, such as member data, order history and files uploaded by customers, belongs in managed databases and object storage. With things split this way, your data stays intact no matter how many times you redeploy.

Keep secrets in environment variables from the start. With separate database addresses for development and production, you can deploy the same code to a test app and a production app while each uses its own data. When you change a key, there is no need to edit code: send the new value on the support page and we change only the environment variable and redeploy.

Setting up a health check address makes deploys safer. When a new version starts, the platform checks that address and moves customer traffic to the new version only after a healthy response. A misconfigured version stops before traffic moves, so customers keep using the previous version.

When something goes wrong, start with the runtime logs. Request them on the support page once your first payment is confirmed and we send you the records your app wrote to standard output in time order, so you can quickly find which request caused the error. If memory fills up often and the app restarts, move up one size. Build logs are kept too, so when a deploy fails we also tell you which package install it stopped at.

App Platform FAQ

Answers on App Platform pricing, deploy methods and sizes

How much does App Platform cost per month?

The smallest size, App L, is $25.00 per month. App XL is $45.00, App 2XL $85.00, and builds, HTTPS certificates, custom domains and log viewing are included in every size.

What is App Platform?

App Platform is managed hosting that handles building, running, HTTPS and restarts for you once you upload your code or container image. No need to install the server's operating system or web server yourself, so developers can focus on app code alone. It is also called PaaS.

Which languages can I use?

For popular languages such as Node.js, Python, Go, PHP and Ruby, the build method is found automatically once you connect your repository. For other languages or apps needing special settings, put a Dockerfile in your repository and it builds and runs from that file.

Can I deploy from a Docker image too?

Yes. Give us the image address from a public or private registry and we run it as is. Tell us the port your app listens on and its environment variables to get an HTTPS address, and give us a new image tag to deploy a new version.

Can I connect my own domain?

Yes. Tell us the domain you will use and we give you the record value to add. Add that one record in your domain's DNS settings to connect it, and the TLS certificate is issued and renewed automatically. You can connect several addresses to one app, such as the root domain and the www address.

How do I choose an app size?

Choose based on the memory your app uses. App L suits bots and small APIs, App XL or App 2XL suits web apps using a framework. You can change the size later based on usage by requesting it on the support page after your first payment.

How do I use a database?

Order a managed database in the same region along with it and ask us to add the connection address as an environment variable. The App Platform disk is prepared fresh on every deploy, so store data that must last in a database or object storage.

How do I pay for App Platform?

Pay with USDT to create your server. The fee for the chosen period is paid when you order, and it renews automatically at the same price on each billing date. Refunds are made to your account credit.

What happens to my app if the payment is not made on the billing date?

If the payment is not made on the billing date, the app pauses for a while, and once you complete the payment it renews automatically again. Complete the payment before the billing date and there is nothing to keep track of each month.

When should I choose App Platform instead of a VPS?

App Platform fits when you have no time for server management and want to run a single app reliably. If you want to install several programs on one server or handle operating system settings yourself, a cloud VPS with root access fits better. You can also start on App Platform and, as your service grows and the setup gets more complex, move the same Docker image to a VPS or Kubernetes and carry on.
