What kind of trading is a forex VPS used for?
Use a forex VPS when your trading platform must keep running even if you turn off your PC or your internet drops for a moment. Here are four common approaches and the sizes that fit them.
Running EA automated trading 24 hours a day
EAs loaded in MT4 or MT5 place orders only while the terminal is on. Keep the terminal on a forex VPS and your strategies run nonstop even while your PC is off and you are asleep. For a few EAs on one account, start with Forex VPS 4.
Running several accounts and terminals at once
Keep live and demo accounts and terminals from several brokers running together on one server. More terminals and charts use more memory, so Forex VPS 6 with 12GB or Forex VPS 12 with 48GB gives you room.
Copy trading and signal connections
The terminals sending and receiving signals must always be on for orders to be copied on time. Place your server in a city close to your broker and the time from receiving a signal to sending the order gets shorter.
Backtesting and strategy optimization
MT5 Strategy Tester optimization finishes faster the more CPU cores it uses. Forex VPS 16, with 16 vCPU, 64GB memory and NVMe disks, fits testing many combinations over long periods of price data.
How do MT4 VPS and MT5 VPS differ, and which size should I choose?
Both platforms install on the same forex VPS. The difference is how many terminals and how much work you run alongside. For mainly live trading, choose an SSD size; for optimization and many terminals, choose an NVMe size.
Forex VPS 4 and 6
SSD servers for live trading
Best for
- A few MT4 or MT5 terminals running EAs
- Live accounts with one or two brokers
- Placed close to Chicago or London broker servers
- Starting light with a small size
Forex VPS 12 and 16
NVMe servers for many terminals and optimization
Best for
- Several brokers and accounts on one server
- MT5 Strategy Tester optimization and long backtests
- Running cTrader and NinjaTrader together
- When you need a large server in New York or Frankfurt
Windows VPS
A Windows server for work beyond trading
Best for
- Trade record keeping and business software
- ASP.NET and SQL Server services
- Free choice of location across 40 regions
- Choice of Windows Server 2025 or 2022
What latency is good enough for forex trading?
There is a principle more important than any set number: place your trading server in the same city as your broker's trading server. Orders travel the network from your terminal to the broker's server, and with both servers in the same city that distance is shortest, so orders arrive in the shortest time. That is why, when choosing a low-latency forex VPS, you decide the location before the specs.
Where brokers keep their trading servers differs by broker, so first check your broker's information or the server name in your terminal. Many brokers keep servers in financial cities such as New York, London, Frankfurt and Chicago. HELPER VPS can create forex VPS in 40 regions, including these cities as well as Tokyo and Singapore.
After creating the server, you can see the response time to your broker's server directly in the connection indicator at the bottom of your MT4 or MT5 terminal. Choose the server in your broker's list that shows the shortest time. Compare the value measured from your home PC with the value from the forex VPS and you will know right away whether you chose the location well.
What is a forex VPS, and how is it different from trading on my PC?
With a forex VPS, you install your trading platform on a Windows server that is always on in a data center and check it over Remote Desktop. A PC at home or in the office can shut down or restart because of power, internet or Windows updates, but a server keeps running on data center power and connectivity.
For automated traders, this difference is big. An EA watches the market and places orders only while the terminal is on, so time your PC is off is time your strategy rests. Move your terminal to a forex VPS and your strategy carries on even when you close your laptop and head out, and you check its status by connecting remotely from your phone.
Another advantage is location. Your PC is in the city where you live, but a forex VPS can be in the same city as your broker. Trades travel a short distance from the server to the broker, and you only receive the remote screen, so you trade under the same conditions whatever country you are in. Your trading setup not changing even on business trips or vacations is a big advantage.

Forex VPS FAQ
Answers on low-latency forex VPS location, pricing and installing MT4 and MT5
What is a forex VPS?
A forex VPS is a Windows virtual server for keeping trading platforms such as MT4 and MT5 and your EAs running 24 hours a day. It is always on in a data center, so automated trading continues even when your PC is off, and placed in the same city as your broker's server, orders arrive faster too. You connect with Remote Desktop and manage it on screen just like a PC.
What latency is good enough for forex trading?
Rather than aiming for a single number, the surest approach is to place your forex VPS in the same city as your broker's trading server. In the same city, the network distance is shortest. After creating the server, check the response time to your broker's server directly in the connection indicator at the bottom of MT4 or MT5, and choose the server that shows the shortest time.
How much does a forex VPS cost per month?
Forex VPS 4 is $25.00 per month with 4 vCPU, 8GB memory and 100GB SSD. Forex VPS 6 is $35.00, the NVMe-based Forex VPS 12 is $65.00, and Forex VPS 16 with 16 vCPU and 64GB memory is $85.00. The Windows Server license and IP addresses are all included in these prices.
Do I need to buy an MT4 VPS and an MT5 VPS separately?
No need. You can install MT4 and MT5 together on one forex VPS, and run terminals from several brokers side by side. Run the installer from your broker's site on the server and log in with your account, and the same screen you used on your PC opens. Put your EA and indicator files in the same folders as on your PC and they load as is.
Which region should I choose?
Choose the city where your broker's trading server is. You can find the location from the server name in the terminal login window or your broker's information. US brokers often use New York or Chicago, and European brokers London or Frankfurt, so use the recommended regions on the cards as a guide, but checking the actual location first is best.
How many terminals and EAs can I run?
There is no set limit; run as many as you like within the server's specs. More terminals, charts and indicators use more memory and CPU, so we recommend Forex VPS 4 if you start with a few terminals, and Forex VPS 6 or 12 if you run several brokers and accounts together. Check usage in Task Manager to decide the size.
How do I connect to a forex VPS?
When the server is ready, the control panel shows the IP address and administrator password. Connect with Remote Desktop Connection on a Windows PC, or the remote desktop app on Mac and phones. The password can be viewed again for only 7 days, so change it on first login, and set your terminals to start automatically with Windows so they carry on right after a restart.
How do I pay for a forex VPS?
Pay the first month's fee when you create the server, and renew it by paying the next month's fee on each billing date. The minimum payment is $25. Check your next billing date and monthly price anytime in the control panel.
What happens to my trading server if I don't pay?
When the billing period ends, the server is suspended and your terminals and EAs stop with it. You can renew within 3 days to start it again; after 3 days the server is deleted. If you have open positions, renewing before the period ends is safest. Paying for several months upfront means you do not need to watch the renewal date.
Can I use cTrader or NinjaTrader too?
Yes. A forex VPS is Windows Server with administrator rights, so you can install Windows trading platforms including cTrader and NinjaTrader. You can keep several platforms on one server, or if you want a separate server per platform, you can create up to 10 servers in one account.
