When do VPS backups help?
You only learn the value of data after it is gone. With VPS automatic backups turned on, you can roll your server back to an earlier state in the four situations below and get your service back up quickly.
When something breaks after an update or settings change
Sites failing to open after an operating system upgrade, plugin update or web server settings change happens more often than you might think. With automatic backups, instead of spending time hunting for the cause, roll the server back to before the change and calmly try again.
When you delete files or data by mistake
Manual work always invites mistakes: one wrong command, a delete with the wrong path, a query that empties a table. With a full copy of the server stored, you can recover deleted files and databases together.
When an intrusion or malware is suspected
If a password leaks or a vulnerable program lets the server get compromised, it is hard to be sure it is clean. Roll back to a backup from before the problem, change your passwords and switch to SSH key login, and carry on safely.
Online stores, customer data and production servers
For servers holding data you cannot recreate, such as order records, member data and payment history, it is best to keep automatic backups on by default. For 5.6% of the server price, you protect the data that builds up day by day.
How do automatic backups and your own file backups work together?
The two do not replace each other; they are strongest used together. Automatic backups are for rolling back the whole server quickly, and your own file backups are for keeping one more copy of important data outside the server.
HELPER VPS automatic backups
An option that rolls the whole server back to an earlier state
Best for
- When you want to roll back the operating system and settings in one go
- When managing backup scripts yourself is a hassle
- Production servers that need a safety net around updates
- When you want a simple start for 5.6% of the server price
File backups you make yourself
One more copy of important files in other storage
Best for
- When you want to keep database dumps by date
- When you keep only selected files with rclone or Restic
- When you want a copy in another region
- Services that want double protection alongside automatic backups
What is the difference between VPS backups and VPS snapshots?
A VPS snapshot usually means a single picture of the server disk that you take yourself at a moment you choose, while a VPS backup means a copy made automatically according to a set method. Both aim to roll the server back to a specific point, but the biggest difference is that backups are made on their own even if you forget.
Losing data on a running server usually comes without warning. Even if you mean to take a snapshot before an update, it is easy to forget on a busy day. Turn on HELPER VPS automatic backups once when creating a server and full server copies are made for you, so there is nothing to remember.
If something needs rolling back, after your first payment, request it on the support page with the server name and what you need. If you are already using a server you can request it right away, and after checking, our team rolls the server back to its state at backup time. When the restore is done, check the server status in the control panel as usual and carry on with your service.
How is the VPS backup fee calculated?
The automatic backups fee is 5.6% of the server price. Standard SSD, high-performance NVMe, dedicated CPU and high-memory servers are all calculated at the same rate, and backup prices for each standard SSD size are shown in the cards above. Turn on backups on the create page and the combined monthly price with the server appears right away in the summary on the right.
The backup fee is added to the server fee to make one monthly price, and both renew together. When you delete a server its backup fee ends too. You can decide per server whether to turn on backups, so adding them only to important servers works well.
Turn on automatic backups in the options section after choosing a region, size and operating system on the create page. The summary on the right shows the monthly total of the server and backup fees right away, so you can check the exact amount before paying. For servers with important data, we recommend turning it on from the start. Servers you can quickly recreate, such as development servers, can run light without backups.
How much do VPS backups cost?
HELPER VPS automatic backups are 5.6% of the server price. The table above shows backup prices for the 6 standard SSD sizes, and high-performance NVMe and dedicated CPU servers are calculated at the same rate.
Small servers, small backup fees
Backup fees scale with the server price, so the smaller the server, the less it costs to protect it entirely. Bigger servers use the same rate, so the amount is easy to predict.
Paid together with the server fee
The backup fee is added to the server's monthly price and renews together on the same billing date. No separate bills to track or billing dates to align.
Automatic renewal with your server
Server and backup fees are paid together. No contract: when you renew your server, your backups continue too.

VPS backups FAQ
Answers on automatic backup pricing, restores and how to turn them on
How much do VPS backups cost per month?
Automatic backups cost 5.6% of the server price. Backup prices for each standard SSD size are shown in the cards at the top of this page, and high-performance NVMe, dedicated CPU and high-memory servers are calculated at the same rate and added to the server price. Check the combined monthly price of the server and backups right away in the summary on the right of the create page.
How do I turn on automatic backups?
After choosing a region, size and operating system on the create page, click automatic backups in the options section to turn it on. The monthly total of the server and backup fees appears right away in the summary on the right, and when you click Create, the first month is charged together. Automatic backups are an option chosen when creating a server, so turn them on from the start for servers with important data.
How do I roll a server back from a backup?
After your first payment, request it on the support page with the name of the server to roll back and what you need. Our team checks the server and backup, then rolls the server back to its state at backup time. If you are using a server, you can request this at any time. Describing what went wrong in your request makes the check faster.
What is in a backup?
Automatic backups are copies of the entire server. Everything on the disk, including the operating system, installed programs, config files, website files and databases, is kept together, so rolling back returns the server to how it was at the time of the backup. If you want to keep just a few selected files, using your own file backups alongside works well.
Are VPS snapshots and automatic backups the same thing?
The purpose is the same; how they are made differs. A snapshot is usually a copy you take yourself at a moment you choose, while automatic backups are copies made on their own without anyone having to remember. HELPER VPS keeps full server copies with the automatic backups option, so your safety net is always ready, even on busy days.
When is the backup fee charged?
The backup fee is added to the server's monthly price and charged together when you create the server, then renews with your server. Check the next billing date and the total monthly price anytime in the control panel.
What happens to backups if payment fails?
If payment fails on the billing date, the server is suspended, and you can renew it by paying within 3 days. After 3 days the server and its data are deleted, so the surest way to protect your backups too is to complete payment before the billing date. Pay within 3 days and you renew the server and carry on as before.
Do I still need my own backups if I have automatic backups?
Automatic backups alone let you roll back the whole server, but keeping one more copy of truly important data elsewhere is a good habit. Make database dumps by date and upload them to other storage with rclone or Restic to protect your data twice over alongside automatic backups. HELPER VPS object storage is also an option for storage outside the server.
Which servers can I turn on automatic backups for?
You can turn on automatic backups at creation for standard SSD, high-performance NVMe, dedicated CPU and high-memory servers. Any operating system works, whether Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream or FreeBSD, and you turn it on the same way for Docker, WordPress, LEMP and Node.js one-click app servers.
How do I pay the backup fee?
Server fees paid with USDT are refunded to your account credit when needed. You sign up with a single account token, so be sure to save the token somewhere safe. One token logs you in to the same account from any device.
